Starting in 1996 as a group working on 3Dlib (prehistoric text version of XShipWars) WolfPack has grown to become a small but dedicated group that has (hopefully) contributed a modest amount of entertainment to the hearts of UNIX game players.

WolfPack is a group of programmers, graphic artists (some of the best in our biased opinion *wink*), and entertainment addicts contributing ^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h sacraficing their time to bring close to commercial quality games to the UNIX world at open source and GPL prices (free software, in other words). WolfPack is 100% non-profit, we rely entirly on the kindness, reason, and cooperation from other software developers and players.

Unlike most UNIX programmers, we direct and attempt to bridge the gap between traditional newbie Windows `flashy graphics' players and advanced UNIX `text is better than images' players.

We are also a strong advocate of

  • Open source (free) software development and distribution. If one could only imagine the progress we can accomplish if it did not matter who recieved the embursement.
  • Cooperation, MicroSoft and many other great companies built themselves on this conceptual foundation... only to loose it to individual greed and corruption. We attempt to break; out of this historical loop.
  • Equal access to computer technology, only giving minorities access to computers is not enough. Software developers and companies need to direct their designs towards `newbies' to linearize the learning curve. WolfPack puts this at its highest priority in our software designs.
  • Communications and efficiency is the basis of everyday development (atleast to our standards), too many development groups lack this cohesion and their software designs and users suffer in the end. WolfPack is not perfect, however we try our best to `work togeather'. We also would like to see other development groups practice this as well, and in addition combine experiance and designs with other groups.
  • Civil rights has become an issue that's poped up several times during WolfPack's existance. A few individuals and groups have in the past, attempted everything from harrassing and spreading negative rumours about WolfPack to threating fraudulant and abusive legal action based on ridiculous forms of intolorance.

WolfPack has strugged through a long and difficult existance, perhaps much more so than what most developers would have. However we try our best to face up to the challenges, which we are proud to have made it through when most others would have given up... and we look forward to many more challenges in the future!
